Allan H. Selig
First and foremost, Bud Selig was a baseball fan. Because he was
heartbroken when the Braves left Milwaukee, Selig became deeply
involved in the effort to get baseball back in his hometown. He and
several investors were successful when they bought the Seattle Pilots
and moved them to Milwaukee in 1970.
Selig served as president of
the club for more than two decades. Near the end of that tenure, he
served as interim baseball commissioner. Selig later became
commissioner and shook up the baseball world by establishing his office
in Milwaukee. Selig worked hard to get owners to share revenue and also
pushed for interleague play, realignment and other innovations.
